"This investment will enable us to increase garlic production and harvesting in more areas"

A new garlic season comes with new opportunities, and to capitalize on these opportunities, investments have been made, says Turkish garlic exporter Tumen Tarim's export manager Kerem Tümen: "Tumen-Tarim, closely associated with garlic in Turkey, aims to expand its garlic cultivation areas. To achieve this, we've acquired new planting and harvesting machinery from Europe this season. This investment will enable us to increase production and harvesting in more areas. The fresh garlic harvest has begun as of May 1st and will continue for 30 days. Our dried garlic will be ready by mid-June."

Tümen is confident that these investments will help his company increase its market share in the European market. "In addition to expanding garlic cultivation areas, we aim to enhance our presence in the European market, by supplying high-quality garlic. With our new planting and harvesting machinery, we are confident that we can increase both the quantity and quality of our garlic production. This investment aligns with our commitment to meeting the growing demand for garlic both domestically and internationally. We are also planning to acquire a new machine for packaging."

Growing as a company is done via multiple avenues, Tümen explains. Next to exporting a wider variety of products, reaching completely new markets is a goal as well: "We're continuously exploring opportunities to diversify our product range and expand into new markets. Our decades of experience in the vegetable and fruit industry have equipped us with the knowledge and expertise to adapt to changing market trends and consumer preferences. We remain dedicated to delivering fresh, nutritious, and flavorful produce to our customers worldwide. As for our export destinations, we primarily target countries on the European continent. In the upcoming season, we aim to increase our market share in Europe and establish continuous exports to both North and South America."

Last year's garlic season was slightly disappointing, due to the weather. Tümen has hope that these problems will be avoided this year, making it a promising season. "Although the total acreage for this year is similar to last year, favorable weather conditions are expected to result in a higher yield and larger-sized garlic compared to last year. That year, heavy rainfall caused significant damage to garlic fields during the harvest season. We hope to avoid such circumstances this year. Our expectations for the new season include the continuation of demand, leading to continuous exports. It's crucial for the recognition of Turkish garlic to be well-established among all garlic buyers, as I feel that Turkish garlic boasts superior taste and flavor," he concludes.
