Colorado's Palisade peach crop might be affected by late freeze

Colorado's Palisade peaches, not yet in season, are experiencing changes due to weather conditions. Despite Denver's recent snowfall, Palisade did not face similar temperatures, leaving the peach crops unaffected by the cold. However, the area has encountered below-freezing temperatures.

Sheri Taylor from Taylor Farm and Ranch reported a small freeze approximately a month ago, impacting early fruit varieties. This event is anticipated to reduce the crop yield by 20-30% compared to the previous year. "As far as our orchard is concerned, we will probably have less fruit because last year we had no freeze damage. We will have a slight freeze damage this year from the cold about a month ago," Taylor explained.

Despite these challenges, the outlook for the peach season remains positive, with expectations of a good crop based on the farm's decade-long history. Last year's high yield was attributed to minimal freezing, and while this season has seen some damage, the overall crop quality appears promising. The peak season for Palisade peaches in Denver is still a few months away, with availability expected at the beginning of July.
