Kazakhstan: In the Turkestan region, the first banana harvest of the season has ripened

The Sayram district boasts a sprawling banana plantation, where the locally adapted variety "anamuz" is grown in the Kazakh climate. Spearheaded by Islam Aliyev, the greenhouse now hosts over 7,000 banana plants. Currently, the greenhouse has ripened approximately 1000 tons of bananas.

To ensure successful acclimatization, 400 trucks of compost were imported. Despite the current greenhouse covering only 5 hectares and meeting just 1% of domestic demand, expansion plans are underway. Aliyev intends to introduce Turkish equipment to optimize cultivation, aiming for more frequent yields.

Asyl Assetov, Deputy Head of the Entrepreneurship and Agriculture Department in the Sayram district, notes a recent trend among farmers towards citrus cultivation. With oranges already growing on 4 hectares and lemons on 5 hectares, proposals for government subsidies to support such ventures are being discussed.

Experts anticipate a further increase in exotic cultivation in the region. Aliyev plans to expand into mangoes, avocados, pineapples, and blueberries on an additional 90 hectares, aiming to provide local alternatives to imported fruits.
