According to a monthly survey, the total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2024, was 76 million bushels, 34 percent more than last May's total of 57 million bushels and 32 percent more than the five-year average for that date.
Fresh apple holdings this May totaled 53 million bushels, 33 percent more than the inventories reported for last May. Processing holdings totaled 23 million bushels, 36 percent more than last year on May 1.
This report captures more than 95 percent of the national storage capacity.
