The planting circumstances at the end of February and the beginning of March were good. After the period of change with warm and cold weather conditions the development of the harvest will be as normal. The growers have made all preparations in order to supply the trade with good early potatoes with a firm skin and of good quality.

The potato associations are calling to sell only consumption potatoes with firm skin. "The good experiences of the last few years have shown that to satisfy the quality requirements set by the consumer on local potatoes a potato with a firm skin will have to remain the norm in 2012 as well," as per Dieter Tepel, chairman of the Deutsche Kartoffelhandelsverband (DKHV).
