EC has a public consult on fruit and vegetables

The European Commission opened a public consultation yesterday regarding the changes, starting 2014, in the communitarian regime for fruits and vegetables, a revision in order to, among other things, assure sustainability in production and raise consumption.

The communitarian Executive will ask for the opinions of consumers, producers, distributors and authorities until 9 September. Among the priorities pointed by the EC is the improvement of the sector's resistance to unexpected events, assuring the production sustainability, the raise in the added value for producers, the increase in consumption and a better control on the expenditure of European funds. The European Commissionaire for Agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, underlined the need to work on "sectoral" norms at the same time as the reform on the set of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). "This info note is a good opportunity to consider where improvements can be made", he added.
