More vegetables and fish, less meat in last 20 years in Germany
The buying conduct of the German population has changed quite a lot in some areas. Striking for instance are the changes in the area of consumption spending for foodstuff. The German statistical bureau Destatis recently mentioned, that for instance the demand for meat products decreased by 17,8% between 1991 and 2011. The demand for vegetables increased, however, by 35,1%. This same applies to fish, the demand for which increased by 15,3%.
Alcoholic beverages were clearly less consumed in 2011 than was still the case in 1991. The demand decreased by about 17,1%. Especially the demand for strong drink (-38,8%) and beer (-13,8%) decreased heavily. The demand for wine has increased by 4,7% since 1991.
Outside of the foodstuff market changes also took place. Now consumers since 20 years ago spend 46,6% more for leisure time, entertainment and culture. The expenditure for electronics increased enormously, namely by 320,7%. This exceptional increase is of course in first instance the result of the continuous technological innovations in this sector.
