Wallis apricots are already on the market, and in the right quantities as well. Last week 649 tons were harvested, which was rather more than the expected 485 tons. For week 28, the overall Swiss forecast is 500 to 550 tons.
Apricots from Wallis are now in the peak harvest season and will be so for the next two weeks. The quality is good and the apricots taste excellent. Already some 1,613 tons have been harvested.

Apricots
Martigny-Coude du Rhône: The harvest continues under good conditions. There is no apparent weather damage. The Orangered® is currently being harvested, and the varieties Berga Rouge and Harval as well. The harvest of the Vertige has just started.
Charrat and its surroundings: the Goldrich/Jumbo varietiy is now completed in the valley itself. Harvesting is going well and people are picking the Bergarouge and the first Vertiges as well.
Saxon: The harvest continues for the Berga Rouge and the first Bergeron.
Aproz, Fey and Salins: The harvest of the early varieties has been completed. They are currently picking the Goldrich/Jumbo Cot and Luizet.
Market situation and imports
The market, that had trouble getting started early last week, is starting to gain speed. Thanks to the cooperation with retailers, consumer can now find Wallis apricots in the shops everywhere. The bigger fruits (over 50mm) are lacking somewhat, but there are more than enough 40-45mm and 45-50mm calibres available to supply the market.
Domestic demand is still met by imported goods as well. From 12.-18. July a quota of 150 tonnes has been allowed. The situation will be reviewed on the 17th of July; then the Product Centre Apricots will decide anew.
