Italy: Apricots larger than in 2017

Roberto Guidi, owner of 300 hectares part of the Albisole brand, reports that there are fewer apricots, but larger and of excellent quality, with a few Brix degrees more than the norm. 

"We specialised in apricots as our area is particularly suitable to grow this fruit. Thanks to the various cultivars, our produce is available from mid-May to 20th September. We're now focusing on a very late variety to be harvested in late September/early October, so fresh apricots can be available for almost 5 months."

"There is less produce available because of the frost and hailstorms. Prices are however satisfactory and we can improve them thanks to our high-quality, continuous supplies, good grades and quick processing. Retailers appreciate these aspects. Packaging also makes a difference, and we've invested a lot in appealing colours and formats."

A few weeks ago, Guidi launched the Terra di Romagna brand, which includes all of the company's products: apricots, artichokes, apricot nectar, spreadable and caramelised fruit, canned fruit, artichokes in oil and patés. It also includes poultry products, which are the company's core business. Artichokes are "new" for Guidi, which started this year with 3 hectares. 

"We currently own 300 hectares in total and we will add 60 soon. Our apricots are destined to Italian retailers, Germany and Austria."
