Eastern European market not to be underestimated
Italian companies, like Eastern Europe and Eastern European companies, are interested in Italian productions and technologies - just think that 34% of foreign visitors and 11% of exhibitors at Macfruit come precisely from this part of the world.
"Eastern Europe is one of our main markets, especially when it comes to onions. Our produce is the most appreciated in Serbia and Hungary and I believe we will grow further over the next few years," explains Maurizio Bacchi from Cora Seeds.
Eastern Europe is appealing also for what concerns logistics. The Port of Trieste is a leading hub and the Udine wholesale market is also becoming very important. What is more, Vivai F.lli Zanzo sells a lot of blueberry plants to countries part of the Russian confederation.
Macfrut 2018 (Rimini, 9th-11th May) is organising specific missions. Together with UniCredit - sponsor and business partner for the event for the fourth year running - a trip has been organised to Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria.
The tour will start on 27th February in Zagreb and will then continue on to Belgrade on 1st March and Sofia on 6th March. The latest introductions to Macfrut will be presented with special attention to protected cultivation as well as the latest technologies.
"Past road shows highlighted the great interest and good business opportunities. The fresh produce sector is evolving all over Eastern Europe, which is passing from a traditional production system to one that aims at the global market. Nursery, new pre- and post-harvest technologies and packaging are the leading segments. These countries are also important outlet markets, especially thanks to the fact that leading supermarket chains can be found there," explains Macfrut President Renzo Piraccini.
