Indian trial orange consignment ready to go to Middle East
The first Mahaorange trial consignment of 1,500 kg of oranges is to be sent to Kuwait and Bahrain by February 27. Though this year nearly 60 percent of their crop has been lost due to an intense hailstorm, Mahaorange - an association of 5 orange growers co-operative societies - is preparing to dispatch this first consignment of oranges to the Middle East.
Mahaorange, a venture of Executive Director Shreedharrao Thakre, Directors Anant Gharad, Ravi Boratkar, Ashokrao Dhote, Manoj Jawanjal, Prashant Kukde, Namdeorao Kherde, Udhayrao Band and Pravin Gandhi, is into the business of collecting oranges and giving it a citrus lither coating which increases the shelf life for the fruit.
Talking to The Hitavada, Shreedharrao Thakre said: “The first trial consignment of 1,500 kilograms is ready for take-off for Bahrain. A similar trial consignment is also ready for Kuwait. This two shipments are quite important and if all goes well then in future the demand for the citrus fruit could soon have large demand which in turn promises an economic turnaround for the orange growers of the region.”
