Alexandre Picault, Kultive:

“Demand for French peppers and eggplants increases”

On the French market, the demand for French products is increasing. Alexandre Picault, commercial director of the producer group Kultive: “The demand for the French eggplants and peppers grows quickly. We are looking for new production areas to increase our volumes. Currently we produce about 1,000 tonnes of green, yellow and red peppers between March and November, but by 2019 we hope to have increased our production significantly.”

The main products of Kultive are cucumber, carrots and beetroots. “Between February and October, we produce 25,000 tonnes of cucumbers. Just as the egg plant and the pepper, they are mostly sold on the French market. The demand is stable and slightly increases. Over the last few years the prices have been good, but last year they were disastrous. We hope for a better season this year.”

“Our annual carrot production is about 20,000 tonnes. The production areas are situated in the southeast, the southwest and in the north of France. Last year we had very high volumes, like everywhere in Europe, and there was a large European stock until December. However, the quality of the products dropped down quite fast, and therefore we expect a good season this year.”

The volume of the beetroots produced by Kultive is about 10,000 tonnes. “The demand is stable. We have high volumes, but they are very homogenous in terms of quality.” Kultive also produces tomatoes. “We mostly grow cherry tomatoes, both long ones and round ones. Before we pack the cherry tomatoes we mix them.”
