A report from Credit Suisse states that the number of Chinese with a medium income has already reached 109 million. This exceeds the 92 million people in The United States with a medium income. The management consulting company McKinsey & Company estimate that in 2020 almost 400 million Chinese will have a medium income. More than half this group will have an annual income between 106 thousand yuan [16,716 USD] and 229 thousand yuan [36,113 USD]. In other words, their purchasing power is growing stronger. This development in the annual income circumstances is obvious in the food consumption trends: people pay more attention to their health and to fine-quality food products.
The influence of agricultural by-products from ASEAN-countries can be clearly seen in all the supermarkets in Nanning, Guangxi, where New Year products are sold on the eve of the Spring Festival. Fragrant rice from Cambodia, passion fruit from Vietnam, durian from Malaysia, etc. all these products have become hot items in the search of Chinese to purchase products for Chinese New Year.
Among the excellent products at modest prices from ASEAN-countries there are many that carry the 'gene' of Chinese technology. This is the result of Chinese technology that has taken root and grows in the soil of ASEAN-countries.
