After the 'cauliflower steak':
Now there is a 'ready to eat' onion
Recently, Twitter came alive again when - just as the buzz about the M&S 'cauliflower steak' had died down a bit - someone spotted "ready to eat", pre-peeled onions at Lidl.
In an article on bbc.co.uk, consumers were shown to be baffled. They just couldn’t understand why, in this day and age, any retailer could choose to remove the natural protective ‘packaging’ from a vegetable product, only to replace it with environmentally destructive packaging.
For its part, Lidl explained on Twitter that the packaging ensures "the quality and safety of our products and is crucial to minimising food waste". It added, "However, we're also aware of the environmental impact it has so, working closely with our suppliers and industry partners WRAP, we're continuing to reduce the amount of packaging we use and increase use of recyclable materials throughout our range."
