China becomes main export destination for fruit from Myanmar

According to the Myanmar newspaper 'Golden Phoenix', the Myanmar Fruit and Vegetable Association stated that China is the main importer of Myanmar fruits. China accounts for 95% of Myanmar fruit export. China has currently sanctioned the import of 8 kinds of Myanmar fruit. Secretary of the Association, Wu Juedu, stated that 4 of those 8 kinds can be imported through any port in China, while the other four (watermelon, muskmelon, mango, and plum) can only be imported into China through the Ruili port.

The Chinese Office for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine has currently sanctioned the following Myanmar fruits for import: dragon fruit, pineapple, mangosteen, watermelon, muskmelon, mango, and plum. Based on our understanding, the main fruits Myanmar exports to China are watermelon, muskmelon, and mango. The annual export of watermelon is 600 thousand tons. Between 100 thousand and 150 thousand tons of muskmelon are exported annually, and around 400 thousand tons of mango.
