According to Daniel Blanco, Commercial Director of Mogalla, the first Sanguinelli oranges from Andalusia are expected to arrive in mid-January, a little later than usual.
"This year, it is arriving with some delay compared to the previous year. It seems that the lack of temperature contrasts between day and night is making the fruit's external colouring more difficult. We expect to make the first shipments with good colour and brix in mid-January."

"We expect larger sizes his year and a very good quality. It is an orange that is generally well-accepted, since it is different from other varieties due to its characteristic colour, both internal and external, which makes it ideal for the decoration of dishes and drinks. This is why much of it goes to the Horeca/Gourmet channels," says Daniel Blanco.
Mogalla is producing around 700,000 kilos of this orange; a volume that it hopes to increase in the coming years. "We have set up new plantations of this variety in our farms in Seville and Huelva, with which we hope to reach a production close to 2,200,000 kilos soon. It is a variety with which we have been doing a very good job and every year we are expanding our market," says the exporter.
The main markets for the Sanguinelli produced by this Andalusian company are France, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and Belgium, where they compete every year against the Italian Moro and Tarocco varieties, the Cara Cara from Turkey or the Maltese from Tunisia, which always reach the markets with very low prices.
"The Sanguinelli market is quite consolidated for us, although we are always finding new markets to sell it, such as the Baltic countries, the Czech Republic, Poland, the US and Canada," states Daniel Blanco.

According to Daniel Blanco, "Andalusia has an increasingly important position in the orange market in general, taking all varieties into account. Between Seville, Huelva and Cordoba, you can find finer and more efficient farms, with very competent producers who manage to obtain great quality oranges thanks to their work and the characteristics of the Andalusian soil. A fairly high share of the oranges that hit the markets in the second part of the campaign come from Andalusia."
