Combination of Greenyard and Dole not dominant in the market

Greenyard probably won't have to worry about the European competition authority if the takeover of Dole goes ahead, writes De Tijd. The Belgian paper calculated the market share after the fusion and concluded that a combination of Greenyard and Dole has less than 5% of the European market in hand. The newspaper does however see another possible pitfall. The European Commission can look at specific parts of the market. Chiquita has been scolded in the past for misuse of their dominant position in the banana market. The defence that Chiquita is a small player in the fruit market, was brushed aside.
