Due to alleged unfair competition from Dutch onions

Brazilian import tax on onions, up from 10 to 25%

In 2018, the import tax on onions entering Brazil will be increased from 10 to 25%. This is because there is allegedly unfair competition from Dutch onions. In order to comply with the MERCOSUL external tariff of 10% by 2021, this tax will be gradually decreased.
