New sweet potato chips to hit US shelves in early 2018

Scott Farms will introduce their sweet potato chips into the US market from early next year. The company already had their sweet potato chips available in the UK and other parts of Europe for several years. After experiencing positive feedback in Europe, Scott Farms are now ready to expand into the US market.

"We first produced our sweet potato chips in 2012," said Garry Smith, of Scott Farms in the United Kingdom. "We showcased them at Fruit Logistica in Berlin that year and were overwhelmed by the positive response that they received. Following a very successful roll out throughout Europe we have met with a number of US based retailers and our chips will start hitting the shelves early in 2018."

Celebrating the flavor of sweet potatoes a factor
Smith said that since Scott Farms has been growing sweet potatoes for such a long time, the company is always looking to innovate and promote the use of sweet potatoes as an ingredient as well as an ideal vegetable for a product such as this. Different sweet potato colors have also provided inspiration for different sweet potato chip options.

"We have been growing sweet potatoes for generations in eastern North Carolina and have always striven to be at the forefront of growing, harvesting and packing development," Smith said. "We have been very actively involved in recipe development in the U.K and throughout Europe as well as the in US domestic market to demonstrate the versatility of sweet Potatoes as an ingredient, and as such innovation in sweet Potato based products was a natural extension."

"Our Chips are made primarily from Covington Orange sweet Potatoes," he continued. "However, we are consistently experimenting with different varieties and even have a three color bagged chip combining orange, purple and white sweet Potatoes which look and taste fantastic."

Careful development to ensure authentic sweet potato flavor
Scott Farms wanted to make sure customers tasted the authentic sweet potato flavor in the chips. The development of the sweet potato chips took into account how thick the chips ought to be as well as such factors as the oil used and how long to cook them for.

"Our chips have undergone vigorous testing to ensure that every stage of production is optimized," Smith said. "From the way they are cut, to the thickness of the slices, the temperature and the type of natural oil, the duration of cooking and the quality of natural flavors that enhance and not mask the delicious sweet potato - no stone has been left unturned to ensure an eating experience that they will want to repeat over and over again."

Scott Farms Sweet Potato Chips will arrive in US stores early in 2018 and will be available in 5oz bags.
