Discount supermarket is a favorite with young Germans

ALDI wins YoungBrandAward

ALDI SÜD and ALDI Nord were awarded the title of "Most Popular Supermarket" at this year’s YoungBrandAwards. On 9 November ALDI accepted the award during the #generationhashtag conference in Munich.

The YoungBrandAwards focus on brands that are particularly popular among teenagers and young adults. Over 27,000 participants, in all age groups, voted online from May to October. Of the voters more than 11,000 participants were aged between 13 and 29. And in the category "most popular supermarket" ALDI emerged as the winner. “We have recently taken a number of steps to create a better brand experience. The award confirms the popularity of the ALDI brand with a younger target group," states Kirsten Geß, ALDI SÜD’s Head of Communication.

Value for money
In preparation of the YoungBrandAwards, a survey is used to find out the most popular brands within a category, such as the most popular chocolate, small car or even supermarket. The survey is used to select the six most popular brands in each category, which are nominated for the award. And the online voters chose ALDI ahead of five other competitors in its category.

“We are very happy that young people love ALDI and that they voted for us. It looks like our assortment, the value for money and our modernized stores attract young customers,” says Serra Schlesinger, Head of Corporate Communications at ALDI Nord.

Youngcom, a Munich-based company, has been organizing the YoungBrandAwards for seven years. This year 168 brands were nominated in a total of 28 categories.
