Special Fruit:
"Certain exotics' turnover even quadrupled in December

The days are getting shorter; pumpkins appear; then we know Christmas is around the corner. During this period exotic fruit also come more to the fore. "While passion fruit, pomegranates and papaya are popular with consumers throughout the year, there are also typical December trends. Tamarillos, figs, carambolas, baby pineapples, pitahaja and litchis see their turnover double, and even quadruple, in the last months of the year", according to Special Fruit, a world-wide fruit and vegetable importer, based in Belgium.

"Not only do they taste good, but these special fruits look very nice on the party table or in the fondue dish. In addition, they are being incorporated more on the dessert buffet to give an exotic touch to the festivities as a whole. With out exotic fruit from our BestChoice range, we also have a hand in this. At the same time we encourage curious consumers to add to the year-end festivities in a healthier, more fair manner."

"What many consumers do not, yet, realise is that our exotics have been on quite a journey, before they reach the Christmas table. With the signing of the Sifav 2020 agreement, an Idh initiative, Special Fruit is striving for more sustainable importation of these fruits. This means our farmers are audited on environmental and food safety. Their social working conditions are also monitored. Meanwhile, most of our volume is sustainably grown. The company is also taking the initiative when it comes to packaging. We test a variety of sustainable kinds of packaging. In this way, the story is true from A to Z. This is how Special Fruit wants it to be."
