New autumn packaging for potatoes at Warnez

"Positioning sweet potatoes with potatoes"

A number of new packagings were recently introduced at the potato packaging company Warnez. Product manager Peter van Steenkiste: "Although Warnez works under a private label, their own packagings under the name 'Get Potatoed' are often a trigger for retailers to look at the category again and see if they are going along with the trends enough."

He continues: "In this framework we recently added a number of new articles to our own assortment:

• Further expansion of the range 'local potatoes'
• A new own packaging of 1 kg for uniform firm cooking potatoes
• A tray for sweet potatoes

"The sales of our potatoes with a local character confirms the decisions from consumer surveys: in the most recent list of 'purchase criteria of consumers' the criteria 'local production' took a serious step forward compared to 2016. That was our signal to further expand our existing range. It concerns a 2kg packaging of firm cooking potatoes from the Haspengouw region, as well as a packaging of 'Polders' with soft cooking potatoes. With a reduction to 2kg, an authentic paper packaging and a clear visualisation of the Belgian character, this is a great addition to our assortment."

New 1kg packaging:
"It goes without saying that the purchasing of increasingly smaller packagings has been on the rise for quite a while. Our previously introduced grab&go bag has been popular, enough reason to continue with this defining packaging. 'A good potato deserves a good packaging' is the message to take home."

More and more sweet potatoes

"We notice that the sweet potato is moving more and more towards the category of potato, rather than exotic. Often there is a complete lack of any product information or inspiration and we wanted to do something about this. Besides the loose sweet potatoes we therefore now also offer a packaging that can be positioned on the potato shelf. Following the trend and looking towards the holidays at the end of the year, this seems like the perfect time to absorb this into the assortment."
