At present, new season apples are about to hit the market. Whether these apples can still realise a golden opportunity for sales was discussed at the '2017 Chinese National Fruit Convention' a few days ago. There, people from within the industry shared information and market prospects regarding the domestic apple production. According to the experts, the performance of the two large import markets, India and Indonesia, will influence the overall direction of Chinese apple exports to foreign countries in the next half year.
First of all, India is the largest market for Chinese apple exports, but, after having suffered from a unilateral import embargo, the price for Chinese apples will drop substantially in the early stages of the next half year. This embargo was brought about by public protests, because Chinese apple regulations do not meet their standards yet.
The director of the research center for engineering and electronics for the national apple industry, Yang Jie, believes that the great gate to the Indian market will eventually open up again, if circumstances remain as favorable as they currently are. Other explanations state that, between January and July in 2017, the gross export of apples from China to India reached up to 131,200 tons, which accounts for 18% of all apple exports in China.
Moreover, there are also indicators that the quota India has for Chinese apples on their import market is lowering. It is estimated that exports will increase greatly this year. According to reports, between January and July 2017, apple imports by India account for 7% of all Chinese apple exports. If it continues, this percentage is likely to grow larger.
