On September 29, Carrefour will open three new pick-up points for drive.be. This will bring the total number of new pick-up points opened this month up to 15. With these 15 openings, customers now have 152 points from which they can pick up orders that they have placed via the drive.be Carrefour website. Carrefour currently sells some 15,000 products via its website.
SuperValu remains largest grocery retailer
The latest grocery market share figures from Kantar Worldpanel in Ireland, show SuperValu managed to retain its position as the largest supermarket in the country for the 12 weeks ending 10 September. The retailer grew its sales by 0.9% year on year – despite another strong performance from Tesco. Deflation in the grocery sector eased slightly compared to last month to stand at 0.4%, although falling prices were not enough to stymie overall grocery market growth: up 2.3% year on year.

E-mart Mongolia opening second supermarket
Discount supermarket chain E-mart Mongolia is opening its second store at Solo Mall in Ulaanaatar. Being run by Korea’s Shinsegae Group in partnership with local retail giant Altai Group, the outlet is in a rented 1540sqm space. Its first Mongolia store, also a collaboration with Altai, has more than doubled its sales target since opening in July last year.

German discounter Aldi was voted the UK’s favourite supermarket at the 2017 Good Housekeeping Food Awards, beating Sainsbury's and Waitrose. The award, organised by Good Housekeeping magazine, asked readers to vote for their most loved supermarket in terms of value for money, shopping atmosphere and quality of products.
Tropic eyes Mercator stores in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnian grocery retailer Tropic has submitted a bid for the takeover of Slovenian supermarket chain Mercator in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The news was revealed by a source to Nezavisne Novine, and subsequently confirmed to the local daily by a company spokesperson, who did not want to discuss the details of the bid. Tropic is one of the leading privately-owned retailers in the Balkan country, with 55 stores and 2,000 employees.
Carrefour Brasil appoints Noël Prioux as new CEO
The board of directors of Carrefour Brasil (Atacadão) has chosen Noël Prioux to replace Charles André Pierre Desmartis as CEO of the company. Prioux is currently the executive director of Carrefour in France. The move to take over the company's business in Brazil follows Desmartis's resignation to focus on projects outside the group, effective 2 October.
Trial Of three former Tesco executives due to begin
The trial of three former Tesco executives charged with fraud and false accounting is set to begin today, Monday 25 September. Christopher Bush (51), who was managing director of Tesco UK, Carl Rogberg (50), who was UK finance director, and John Scouler (49), who was UK commercial food director, have each been charged with one count of fraud by abuse of position and one count of false accounting.
