Wild persimmon, also known as Diospyros armata or Diospyros cathayensis, is often planted in gardens for decorative purposes. It is also possible to plant it in a pot. It's fruits grow slowly and have an unusual bullet-shape; that's why it is called Diospyros armata.
In China Diospyros armata mostly grows in Hanzhong and Ankang cities in Shaanxi province and in the wild mountains of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. Villagers from the mountains cut off wild persimmon branches and use them for firewood, because the fruits are slightly poisonous and not good for food. Wild persimmon that grows in a pot does not bear fruits for the first two years, but the leaves are already beautiful. The plant is evergreen and prices rise with the age. Between three and five years, it costs a few hundred yuan. The older it gets, the more beautiful it looks and it's price can reach 100,000 or even higher.
