Spain: Imported organic products to require electronic certificates
Imports of organic products should have, as of October 2017, the compulsory electronic certificate of control provided by Traces, which will replace the traditional paper control document in force until now.
This measure follows the implementation of Action 12 of the Commission's Action Plan for the future of European Union (EU) organic production.
The European Commission has developed a system of electronic certification of imports of organic products, in the form of a module, incorporated into the integrated computerized veterinary system (Traces), noted the Mapama.
The stakeholders directly affected by this regulatory change are the importers and the agencies or authorities that issue the certificate of control, for "what does not entail any cost or need for new investment for organic farmers", according to the Ministry.
He added that, through the General Subdirectorate for Differentiated Quality and Ecological Agriculture, changes have been reported to the competent authorities in the production of the autonomous regions to transmit the information to the affected operators (importers) and validate them in the Traces system.
