The golden autumn month of September is the season when fresh chestnuts arrive on the market in large amounts. At this beautiful time of the year, the Shandong Mengyin chestnuts are falling from the trees and bursting open. In the recent period, the situation of the Mengyin commodity price can be understood from the markets in small villages like Duozhuang, Yedian, Taoqu and others. The chestnuts that have already been harvested here are mainly two varieties: Songjiazao and Chushuhong. The price for these two varieties is 9.6 RMB to 10.2 RMB and 8.2 RMB to 9 RMB respectively. That price is one RMB lower compared to last year.
The reason why the chestnut price fell this year is that the production volume has gone up. The supply is bigger than the demand on the market. Moreover, the chestnuts from Hebei province have turned out to be really nice as well, with a nice shape and a rich fragrance. For these Hebei chestnuts, the demand is bigger than the supply and this has influenced the price of the Mengyin chestnuts. In the following weeks, the Shifeng, Haifeng and Laoshu varieties will also become ready for harvest.
