International Blueberry Congress

Joyvio Joy Wing Mau joins international blueberry traders

The 2017 International Blueberry Congress was held from 10 to 12 September in Qujing, Yunnan. It was held by the Qujing government, Yunnan Ministry of Agriculture and the International Blueberry Organization, and organized by the Joyvio Joy Wing Mau Group and the China Excellent Agriculture Blueberry Industry Association.

Many people attended the congress, such as Li Wenrong, secretary of the Yunnan Committee and the Qujing Municipal Committee; Zhang Zulin, deputy governor of Yunnan; Peter McPherson, chairman of the International Blueberry Organization; Dong Baotong, deputy secretary of the Qujing Municipal Committee; and mayor, Liao Maohua, chairman of the Joyvio Joy Wing Mau Group, and Zhang Jian, chairman.

As the most influential event for the international blueberry industry, the congress gathered together hundreds of elites from all over the world, such as representatives of the International Blueberry Organization, top berry companies, governmental leaders, experts, scholars and major players. This is the fifth year that the annual congress has been held, and it is the first time that it is held in China.

The theme for this year's congress was "Colorful Yunnan - New Horizon for World Blueberry." A series of activities was held, such as a summit forum, different themed forums, an exhibition of outstanding agricultural products, and a "Night of the Blueberry."

It is worth mentioning that, at the summit forum, Peter McPherson, chairman of the International Blueberry Organization, and Li Yadong, president of the China Excellent Agriculture Blueberry Industry Association, both presented an "International and Chinese Blueberry Industry Report," where they analyzed the current international blueberry industry and its developments. Wang Minzheng, the head of the Yunnan Ministry of Agriculture, which hosted the congress, presented the "Yunnan Blueberry Industry Developments and Collaboration Prospects," and encouraged leading international blueberry organizations and companies to grow together. The business forum, with topics such as blueberry trade, brands and sales channels, was very popular. The technology forum on blueberry production covered areas like breeding, new technologies, the prevention of insect pests and plant diseases and packaging equipment. Chinese and international companies and scholars discussed the newest research and practice results at length. By sharing international knowledge, China can further develop its blueberry industry.

Qujing is a large agricultural city in Yunnan. It has the perfect environment to grow blueberries. In 2014, Qujing joined hands with the Joyvio Joy Wing Mau Group, and they developed its blueberry industry together. Joyvio Joy Wing Mau is a leader in the Chinese fruit industry. It has large-scale production fields in China and abroad, a breeding center, a technological center, a sorting and processing center, a cold chain distribution platform, a brand management network, and its own influential "Joyvio blueberries" brand.

Its "sharing value strategy" aims to integrate the international fruit resources, and create the best products and services for international fruit, profitable for the farmers, and beneficial for the consumers. Relying on Joyvio Joy Wing Mau's expert support and leadership, Qujing integrates the industry resources, and promotes five pillars for the blueberry industry, namely breed research and development, sprout and tree breeding, production demonstrations, storage and sorting, and distribution and sales, in order to create a high-end blueberry industry clan, and make it "the blueberry capital of China".

The International Blueberry Congress in Qujing was an important opportunity to show the world the development of the Chinese and Qujing blueberry industry. Discussing with the international blueberry industry and scholars, gaining experience, and looking for international partners, provides them with new ideas for the development of the Chinese agriculture.

During the congress, professor Li Yadong, from the Jilin Agricultural University presented his report on the Chinese blueberry industry. He also pointed out that several international leaders in blueberries, such as the American Driscoll's and the Chilean Hortifrut, have invested in the Chinese blueberry industry, so that Chinese farmers can increase their production. It is estimated that, in ten years, China will surpass North America as the worldwide leader in blueberry production.

Two forums were held during the summit. One was a discussion about problems in the international and Chinese blueberry industry. The other was on the technological developments in the industry. After the first day, the "Night of the Blueberry" was held. Today will be the second day of the congress. Discussions will be held on this year's Chinese fruit import. Someone from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China will also give an introduction on Chinese import inspection and quarantine processes.
