Looking for future market developments in Asia

The 2017/18 campaign has started in Trentino with the harvesting of Gala apples. The frost in spring and hailstorms during summer significantly reduced yields and the upcoming season is expected to be more complicated than usual. But it is precisely at times like these that the good organisation of Trento producers emerges, as they find the best development opportunities.

It's important to look ahead with optimism, just as Melinda and Consorzio La Trentina did when they signed a historic agreement. Both POs will fall under a single commercial strategy to better promote their productions and supply a wider varietal assortment.

This is also why they will take part in Asia Fruit Logistica for the first time. It is an essential event for the future development of a market that increasingly cares about quality and that is proving to be interesting for the distribution of apples from the Trento area.

In the last period, Consorzio Melinda signed important agreements for the introduction of new varieties that may prove interesting on markets such as the Asian one. The agreement for SweeTango® was signed just a few days ago. It is a red two-colour variety ideal to be cultivated in the mountains with organoleptic and appearance characteristics suitable for distribution abroad.

The Melinda range has also widened to include Kizuri, another red variety that joined Gradisca, Galant, Evelina, Gala and Red. "Our consortium is investing on varietal renewal, so we can be even more competitive on existing markets and conquer new ones such as the Asian one," explains General Director Paolo Gerevini.

The attendance of Asia Fruit Logistica will enable the two POs to showcase their other products as well, such as for example cherries. This fruit is of excellent quality and its shape and flavour are ideal for foreign clientele, which is increasingly enthusiastic about Italian products.

You can find Melinda, Consorzio La Trentina and other Italian apple producers at Asia Fruit Logistica (Hong Kong, 6th-8th September) in Hall 5C-Stand J11 (Assomela). Export managers Giovanna Turrini and Anton Carra will welcome guests. "Asia Fruit Logistica is a unique occasion to meet new partners and introduce them to our consortium. This edition will be dedicated entirely to showing our flair for innovation and commitment to high-quality and sustainability to the Asian market."
