Austria: Balanced Onion Market

The Austrian onion market is well-balanced. Currently, they are mainly selling leftover winter onions and summer onion sets. The supply of summer seed onions is only growing very slowly, due to the continuously high temperatures. Due to the low yields for the supplies with no irrigation, there will probably not be a very big overall harvest in this year. Domestically, the demand is still relatively low due to the vacation season. Planned sales in retail and the end of the summer break will probably cause rising profits in the near future. The exports to Eastern and Southeastern Europe are small but steady. Producer prices have not changed since last week; Onions, cleaned and sorted are sold for between 14 to 17 Euros per 100kg, depending on quality.
