The achacha enters international market with force

The achacha, an exotic fruit of Amazonian origin produced in Guatemala, has started to be exported this year to countries around the world. It is an innovative export, as no other country had previously managed to introduce this product in the international market.

The Guatemalan company Prime Tropics has been the first to obtain the GlobalGap certification for this product at a global level. The company has 70 hectares devoted to the production of the fruit, whose season lasts from May to August. Edilson Hernández tells us that his company "is the largest when it comes to the production and export of this fruit, as well as the one with the largest acreage devoted to it."

"This year, things have been going quite well, as we have managed to export the fruit for the first time to the international market, making shipments to London, Hong Kong and Canada, as well as a test shipment to the Netherlands, and all of them have been very successful. We expect production and exports to increase next year, as the plantations will reach their peak in terms of productivity and we will have a greater volume."

Edilson Hernández believes that "the success of this new fruit is due mainly to its exotic nature, its excellent flavour and its pleasant aroma. It's a perfect combination. The achacha is a fruit of an intense yellow colour which releases an excellent aroma when opened and has a fleshy texture that makes it very palatable."

Prime Tropics is a company dedicated to the production of exotic fruits and, in addition to the achacha, they also grow rambutan, which is shipped mainly to the United States, with some very important shipments made also to the Netherlands this season, and mangosteen, but next year they are also planning to launch a little known fruit, called finger or finger-lime. All its products are exotic and they are recording a rising demand in the international market, paving the way for this company to gain ground in many countries around the world.
