Fyffes and Feeding America fight hunger on National Banana Lovers Day

This month, Fyffes — one of the world’s largest fruit companies and Europe’s No. 1 banana supplier — is partnering up with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, part of the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization—to solve hunger while celebrating “National Banana Lovers Day.”

From Aug. 16 to Aug. 27, Fyffes is running an online initiative to encourage social-media users across the country to share the role bananas play in their everyday lives. And for each banana-related post, Fyffes will donate 20 pounds of bananas to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Those looking to participate in the donations are encouraged to share stories, recipes, photos or videos tagged with #BananaLoversDay and #FightHungerWithFyffes across their social media platform of choice and help Fyffes reach its donation goal of 5,000 pounds of bananas.

“The Fight Hunger with Fyffes campaign strives to help local communities on a very personal level and this is one we hope people across the country will engage with and support,” said Marion Tabard, vice president of marketing for Fyffes North America. “The ability to provide aid to families facing hunger across America—with fresh, healthy and nutritious options—is at the forefront of our values at Fyffes, and we welcome this partnership with one of the most trusted charities in the country.”

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin distributes more than 25 million pounds of healthy and nutritious food to more than 600 members, including food pantries, meal programs and shelters throughout 36 counties. It is the leading hunger-relief organization in the state and provides the equivalent of more than 21 million meals a year to nearly 400,000 people, and 97 percent of all contributions go directly to supporting hunger relief. Feeding America has received a five-star rating from Charity Navigator for six years in a row—a distinction that less than five percent of U.S. charities hold.

"Wisconsin is lush with farmland, so it’s hard to believe that 1 in 7 of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Far too much food is wasted every day. We work to connect those food sources to those facing hunger,” said Patti Habeck, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “The generosity provided in a partnership with Fyffes aids us in our ultimate goal of helping the people we serve build a path to a brighter, food-secure future."
