Nectarines with a great post-harvest and juicy apricots

New paraguayo varieties, fully closed and with more colour

Filoe paraguayo

Although there are still Paraguayo varieties with bottoms that don’t close well, leaving holes that take a negative toll on their appearance, now the market will have access to a new plant material. PSB Produccion Vegetal has launched a new range of Paraguayo varieties with 100% fruit closure, such as the Samantha, which falls under the same production schedule as the UFO 3 and Contessa, and in the same harvesting period as the UFO4. Besides, the new variety Filoe, which is harvested 40-5 days after the Sweetcap, has also arrived.

Contessa paraguayo

"They are characterised by being more productive varieties and with a full fruit closure," explains Stéphane Buffat, manager of PSB Producción Vegetal. Furthermore, the Paraguayo varieties that existed until now have a colouration of between 50 and 60%, whereas this new range reaches between 80 and 90%. "The new Paraguayo varieties that we have developed are greatly enhancing the fruit's appearance," affirms Buffat.

New nectarine varieties with a very interesting post-harvest

Boreal nectarine

The Buffat family also wants to surprise the stone fruit industry with three new nectarine varieties with a very interesting post-harvest, which can help producers and marketers plan their sales and exports more accurately. "We have launched new nectarine varieties which stop developing once they are cut from the tree. Their post-harvest is very important and their colour spectacular," affirms Stéphane Buffat.

Tiffany nectarine

One of these varieties is the Boreal, which is harvested in the same period as the Big Bang, with white flesh and fully red skin. The Claris arrives two weeks after the Big Top and has yellow flesh. 3 weeks after the Big Top harvest is the time for the new Tiffany variety, and between 10 and 15 August, growers in the production area of Lleida have the new variety called Opera.

2 new late apricot varieties with improved juiciness
PSB Producción vegetal wants to improve the juiciness of late apricots with two new self-fertile varieties.

Nelson apricot

With a harvesting period between late July and early August, the new Nelson variety brings a wide range of aromas and very good taste qualities.

With a harvesting period in mid-July, Spanish producers will also be able to grow the Aristo variety.
