Suzuki fruit fly found in Chile

After Europe and North America the suzuki fruit fly has now been spotted in Chile. Three weeks ago three specimens were found in traps set in the agrarian and tourist region Pucon and Villarica. Since then the population has increased hugely and a couple of hundred fruit flies have been found together in various regions. This was reported by the NFO.

The insect is mainly found in wild vegetation and not in commercial orchards. As it is now winter in Chile, the pest control options are limited
