The weather conditions in 2017 have been kind to nectarine crops. Consequently, this year there has been a considerable increase in the production, "although it should not be compared with last year's, because due to the frost, we didn't have a single kilo," states Juan Torrente, of Lobrot S. Coop.
This Murcian company produces a range of varieties of organic nectarines, like the Super Morena, Boreal, Garofa (R-8) and Luciana. "We have an average of 40,000 to 50,000 kilos of organic nectarines per year," explains Torrente. Of this volume, 70% is exported to countries such as France and Germany. "We ship them to these countries because they are there re-exported to Nordic and Eastern European countries," explains the representative of Lobrot.
"Both this year and the last, the campaign kicked off with the same price: 2.50 Euro," states Torrente, who clarifies that the price of organic fruit is always a little higher than the conventional. "Although we cannot yet say what will be the minimum price of one kilo of these nectarines, we have as reference the one that was paid last year, which was 2.30 Euro per kilo," adds Torrente.
