Richard Bevelander, Van Dommele:

“Limited supply of large-sized oranges”

Oranges are small this year. “The arrival of large sizes is very limited. There are plenty of small sizes but those sales are much more difficult,” says Richard Bevelander from Van Dommele. “The Spanish Salustiana season is over for us, and we have completely switched to Navel Lane Late. In a few weeks we will switch over again, to Valencia.”

The cold in Spain has had little effect on the supply of the citrus, according to the importer. “There were shortages of vegetables, but that does not result in an increase in demand for citrus. Besides, Morocco and Egypt have plenty of citrus available. I feel positive about the remainder of the season for the market.”

Van Dommele services its domestic customers daily, from its locations in Breda and Hedel. “Especially our exclusive brands, Marie José, Hartenboer and Famisa always enjoy a good demand on the market. We also receive tangerines in Marie José, from the varieties Nadorcott and Tango, completed by some exclusive types from Morocco,” Richard concludes.
