According to a survey of prices paid to the producers of Mexican limes (sour) from Colima for the month of January 2017, the selling prices (wholesale and consumer), and marketing margins in the three selected cities (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Monterrey, NL, and Torreón), were as follows:
Prices paid to producers ($/ kg)
The highest average price paid to producers in the field in the aforementioned entities during the month of January was observed in the citrus region of Tecoman, Colima ($ 8.85 / kg), while the lowest price was observed in the region of Apatzingan, Michoacan ($ 2.85 / kg). Wholesale prices ($/kg)
The highest monthly average wholesale price was recorded in the Union of Traders of La Paz, Baja California South ($ 23.82 / kg), while the lowest price was observed in Aguascalientes' Agriculture and Supply Trading Center, Aguascalientes ($ 9.67 / kg). [SIIM, January 2017, Chart 1)
Retail prices for consumers ($/kg)
The highest monthly average retail price for consumers was recorded in the supermarkets and traditional stores located in the city of Tijuana, Bajai California ($ 26.60 / kg), while the lowest price was observed in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora ($ 17.50 / kg). [INEGI, January 2017)
Trading margins (%)
The highest trading margin took place in the city of Torreon, Coahuila (198%) and the lowest one was registered in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco (142%). [See Charts 2, 3, 4 and 5)
Production volumes (in tons)
According to data from SIPROLIMEX- Mexico's Lime Product System, during January (2017), the highest volume was recorded in the citrus region of Apatzingan, Michoacan, which produced 18,500 tons (71%). Meanwhile Guerrero, Guerrero, had the lowest volume and only produced 410 tons (2%). The state of Colima produced 6,250 tons (24%). (SIPROLIMEX, January 2017, see Chart 6)
