Due to rains earlier this year mango production in Mugica, Mexico
dropped 40 percent this season, according to the mayor of Casimiro Quezada Casillas.

He said that to compensate those who were affected, there will be support and inclusion in state and federal programs.

 

However, some producers recognized that the rain benefited them instead of negatively affecting them since their gardens were not flowering in those days despite the fact that between February and March the price for Tomy and Haden mango (grafted varieties) had a price of 16 pesos a kilo ($1.21US). Currently the cost of a kilo in the market does not exceed 3 pesos.

 

Those who managed to sell mango at a good price did so because flowering took place early. In Mugica there are about 15,000 hectares in production, each hectare produces about 10 tons per year.
