Belgium: Guido Fruit satisfied with Spanish strawberries
"Up to now we are very satisfied with the Spanish strawberry season" Dirk Heerman of Guido Fruit says enthusiastically. "Only volumes were a little disappointing. This is the result of the cold nights in Spain.
During the day the weather was excellent and the quality of the strawberries is therefore super. Next week we expect more volumes because warmer nights in Spain are forecast."

"At the start of the season prices were about one Euro. After that for a short while 60/70 cents. Luckily the price has again increased. They are not bad: For the good quality strawberries we receive 90 cents to one Euro at the moment." According to the trader the demand for strawberries is good. "We expect to receive them till the middle of May and I hope that the season will continue as it has started. In any case it looks good and we are not as yet bothered by the small quantities of Dutch and Belgian strawberries, which are on the market now."

Dirk and his wife Nancy
