Sri Lanka: Pineapple farmers' villages to be established
Concurrent to the Deyata Kirula development programme, 12 pineapple farmers' villages in 12 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the North Central Province will be established, Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Agri Products, Marketing Animal Product and Health, Women's Affairs and Provincial Council Affairs, K.H. Nandasena said.
He was addressing a press conference at Milano Hotel, Anuradhapura.
About 100,000 pineapple saplings will be cultivated in these villages and eight farmers from each village will be selected and all facilities for 100 farmers are in place, the Provincial Minister said.
He also said that a plan was afoot to produce compost fertilizer in those villages itself and marketing facilities also would be provided.
