Sri Lanka: Local big onion cultivation in this season will be expanded.
The Agricultural Department says local big onion cultivation will be further expanded in this season. Many farmers are keen on cultivating big onions since the price is stable. Accordingly, the Department is to issue about 108 thousand kilograms of big onions seed to the farmers. Annual demand of big onion in the country is about 220 thousand metric tons. Out of the demand about 80 thousand metric tons could be produced locally in the past years. The Agriculture Department says the amount is to be increased this year.
