Chefs will take center stage during the 48th Nogales Produce Convention

Chefs from Arizona and Mexico will take center stage as they incorporate the flavors of produce from Nogales at the event, “1st Culinary Showcase - Top dishes out of Mexico’s top produce.”

In order to highlight the importance of Nogales, Arizona, as the main gateway of the Mexican produce in the U.S. and our shared cultural heritage, the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) and the Consulate General of Mexico in Nogales, Arizona, are inviting the community to this first-ever culinary showcase.

The event will take place at the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa located in Tubac, Arizona, on Friday, Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This event is an exciting addition to the 48th Nogales Produce Convention, a gathering that traditionally marks the beginning of what we expect to be a great season for fresh produce coming from Mexico,” said Lance Jungmeyer, president of FPAA. 

“We are very happy to be working together with the Mexican consulate, as we both understand the importance of collaboration and good relations for the economics of our area and the culture that we share and embrace,” Jungmeyer added.

To this date, there is confirmation of nine chefs, some from Mexico and others from the U.S., (Nogales, Rio Rico and Tubac). However, this list may still expand to include more chefs. 

Among these chefs are Ed Bañuelos from Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) / Director of Dining Services, Marisela Parra and students from Culinary Arts School at Nogales High School, Patti Schmalzel and students from Culinary Arts School at Rio Rico High School, Karla García and students from Universidad Durango – Santander, Rogelio Ramón García and students from Universidad CEUNO, Lourdes and Jorge Sánchez from Soto's PK Outpost, plus chefs from the Festival Chef Sonora from the Ganfer foundation.

Guests will include authorities from both countries, media, members of the produce industry and the community in general.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample appetizers, learn about different dishes, taste the fresh produce incorporated in the recipes and at the same time enjoy the music of Marimba Sahuaro from Nogales, Sonora, explained L.C.I., Nazzer O.
