Yannong technologies launch first super kiwi fruits

High sugars, high yields & high resistance for stomach ulcers

"'Yannong no. 3' is the first kind of super kiwi fruit that we have pushed forward. It has a green pulp, a good taste, lots of sugars and a solubility of approximately 18%. Its yield was massive, with a single fruit weighing up to about 110 grams on average and an output of approximately 167 kilograms per hectare," explains Doctor Wang Zhongyan, who is a biotechnology expert working for Yannong technologies in Changsha.

"When comparing to the majority of other kiwi fruits with green pulp,'Yannong no. 3' has relatively little fruit fuzz and its surface is bright and clean. Moreover, the fruit reaches maturity approximately one month earlier than most other varieties, which allows for a harvest at the end of September or the beginning of October. The storability of the fruit is good: in a cold environment it can be stored for more than six months. An initial survey indicated that this kind of fruit can help prevent stomach ulcers. While other kinds of kiwi fruit often may cause harm to the stomach, the 'Yannong no. 3' is absolutely safe."

Follow up fruit breeds wait for action after having accumulated power

"Good breeds are crucial in the kiwi fruit business. Currently, a lot of breeds are being cultivated in China, but an overwhelming majority have serious flaws: some don't taste good and others may carry diseases. As a result the whole kiwi fruit industry has suffered from grave setbacks and financial losses. Because of this, Yannong technologies has devoted itself to developing a systematic approach of seed selection and control and has been using natural resources, from both inside and outside China, to the fullest. They also have been progressing a large scale, cross-breeding program which strives to come up with super kiwi fruits that meet six requirements: they must be tasty, attracive, disease resistant, easily stored, heat-resistant and they should produce high yields."

"Yannong technologies research center is situated in Changsha and takes up 26 hectares, which makes it, not only the largest center in the world, but also the one in which research on kiwi fruit breeds is done in the most systematic way. Yannong technologies have so far tested a selection of 270 breeds of kiwi fruits and plans to launch a diverse array of new varieties in the next couple of years," says Wang Zhongyan."We carry out a strong protective force over the new fruit breeds and use authorized plantation techniques to commercialize them for global distribution".
