Producers welcome at Agri Cape Week
Agri Cape Week is an agricultural expo presented by the Agri Mega Group. The expo focuses specifically on the fruit, wine and vegetable industries in the Western Cape. Agri Mega Group is well known for the annual Agri Mega Week that takes place during September in Bredasdorp. This expo focuses on the small grain, dairy and livestock sectors in Agriculture. Agricultural producers in the fruit, wine and vegetable industries are invited to take part in the second Agri Cape Week that will take place from 15 – 17 April at Boland Agricultural High School, Agter-Paarl.
10 Reasons why you, the producer, should attend Agri Cape Week!
1. Alternative Fruit
Opportunities from uncertainties in action: Members of the public as well as producers have the chance to explore this market. Types of alternative fruit that will be on display at Agri Cape Week, includes figs, pomegranate, persimmons, hazelnuts and of course, olives – featuring in a separate exhibition.
The National Olive Conference will place further emphasis on the olive industry with various international speakers from Italy and Spain. The conference is presented on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 April by the SA Olive industry, in conjunction with the ARC. 2. VinPro Information Day: Thursday 15 April 2010
Like last year, the VinPro Regional Information Day will again be presented at Agri Cape Week. Excellent speakers including Duncan Savage, from Cape Point Vineyards, Prof van Wechmar from the University or Stellenbosch and Dr Marianne Venter from Biocult will add to an outstanding programme for wine producers. 3. Special focus on Beef Cattle: Thursday 15 April 2010
Producers of Beef cattle can look forward to a Sussex judging course, Beef Information day, Interbreed Beef Cattle championship and Beef Auction. Come listen to role players in the sector, including Gerhard Schutte, Chief Executive Officer of the National RPO, Dr Jannie van der Merwe, a veterinarian from Darling and Wolf Edmayr, Chief Executive Officer of BKB.
4. Value chain exhibitions
A New concept with the potential to change the way we think about agricultural marketing. These value chain-based exhibitions will explain the entire process of production, from soil preparation and planting, to harvesting, processing, packaging and marketing. These exhibitions are mostly focussed on members of the public and exhibitors are encouraged to present interactive exhibitions in the following industries: Olives, Deciduous Fruit, Alternative Fruits, Vegetables and Table Grapes. 5. Demonstrations
See how new equipment works before you buy them. Exhibitors at Agri Cape Week be able to attend daily demonstrations of their products, and if you like what you see, you can close the deal right there at the expo. Demonstrations are planned for earth moving equipment, general implements and spraying equipment for vineyards. Suppliers of equipment interested in exhibiting and demonstrations can contact Cornea Geldenhuys at 028 424 2890 or e-mail at cornea@agrimega.co.za.
6. Pumpkin Festival
Boland Agricultural High School and Freshmark, the Fresh vegetable and fruit supply division of the Shoprite Group, will present a Pumpkin Festival at Agri Cape Week 2010. Gigantic pumpkins, which will be judged by weight, will be entered into the competition and will be on display at the Shoprite/Checkers exhibition at the expo. Winners will be announced on Saturday 17 April at the expo.
7. Agri Tourism
A Unique focus at Agri Cape Week: Agritourism has the potential to create a sustainable extra income on farms, utilising existing resources, not necessarily influenced by price changes, natural elements and market trends. Agritourism thus became a business opportunity producers cannot afford to miss out on! The program includes a brunch, presented with Tuis-magazine and Die Gieter. Mabel Steenkamp, owner of Die Gieter, a flower and décor shop in Paarl, is the guest speaker at this event. 9. School’s Rugby
Boland Agricultural High School and Diocesan College (Bishops) will battle it out on the rugby field on Saturday 17 April at Agri Cape Week. Various teams in different age groups will compete and the action will end on a high note with the two 1st teams facing each other in the main act. If you are a former student of Boland, come support your alma mater!
10. Free Entrance and various other events
Bring your colleagues, farm workers, neighbour, your wife and kids! With Free entrance to the expo and all the events Agri Cape Week 2010 has to offer, a visit to the expo is surely worth it.
