US: Shenandoah Growers reports advanced brand protection guarantees

Shenandoah Growers packs and distributes a variety of fresh herbs grown on their farms and the company also owns one of the most advanced certified organic greenhouse operations for growing USDA certified organic fresh cut and living fresh herbs in the United States.

Shenandoah Growers, Inc., a leading provider of fresh cut and living organic fresh herb products to retail and food service providers, recently implemented TraceGains’ Advanced Brand Protection solution. The company addressed industry-wide food safety initiatives while leveraging improved productivity, assuring consistent product quality, and improved customer service.

Shenandoah Growers’ implementation of TraceGains addresses three key objectives.
Provides compliance with the product labeling and traceability requirements of the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) and other current and pending food safety laws in Congress.
Provides automated supplier quality assurance mechanisms, and helps improve the efficiency in documenting the pedigree of each product harvested, packed and shipped.
The benefit is that Shenandoah Growers can now automatically evaluate each lot of bulk harvested product against purchase order specifications and quality standards at the time of harvest. By replacing the previous manual process, Shenandoah Growers can perform a thorough inspection of its harvest with less labor.

Timothy Heydon CEO at Shenandoah Growers said, “We needed to address PTI compliance and prepare for upcoming changes in legislation. TraceGains also lets us leverage this investment to continually improve service for our customers. We can take advantage of the opportunity to better ensure that what our farms and greenhouses harvest matches our expectations and meets or exceeds our quality standards. The TraceGains system has made the process of measuring harvest compliance and packing customer orders more accurate. Our ROI payback for this investment is a matter of months.”

Previously during the packing process the manual process of recording which raw materials were used in finished product shipped to each customer has now been fully automated. The capabilities of the TraceGains system identifies the pedigree of each finished product, and also pinpoints within seconds where all finished goods packed using each raw material were shipped.

Gary Nowacki, CEO of TraceGains added, “Shenandoah Growers is another great example of a company that has used our products to make traceability an added value to their customers.”
