Ziv-Golan combines two revolutionary processes developed by Juran
Israel: From raw pomegranate to packaged frozen arils
Juran, leading provider of innovative solutions for the agriculture and food industries, is lately best known for its unique pomegranate solutions. Its subsidiary, Ziv-Golan, has established a continuous line incorporating two of its innovative processes that are revolutionizing the food industry.
Getting the best out of the pomegranate
Previously requiring an expensive and labor-intensive operation, pomegranate arils can now be extracted at a new level of efficiency with minimal seed damage, increased output, and tremendous cost savings. Juran introduced the first automated system for extracting arils in 2003, and has been improving it ever since. Today's ArilSystem is available in 4 models that can handle 15, 20, 28 or up to 56 fruits per minute. Processing 28 fruits a minute means some 1,008 kilograms of fruit per hour, with a yield of over 300 kilograms per hour of superior quality arils, untouched by human hands, all from a single ArilSystem production line. The result is an all natural, superior quality pomegranate product with a longer shelf life.

Frozen like fresh
Another creative development from Juran is its revolutionary new pre-freezing process which overcomes the drawbacks associated with freezing fruit. Until now, frozen fruit products, once thawed, became limp and watery – a poor substitute for the fresh product. With the new FDF process from Juran subsidiary Fresh Defrost, now thawed fruit is nearly indistinguishable from its fresh counterpart. What's more, the process involves no chemical additives leaving the fruit as natural and fresh as when it left the tree or vine.
The newly established Ziv-Golan continuous line covers the entire process from entry of raw fruit, through aril extraction, washing, freezing and packaging, in one smooth ongoing operation. Currently supplying the Japanese market, its exports for the 2009 season reached 100 tons of arils. With a sophisticated consumer population increasingly aware of the extraordinary health properties of the pomegranate, Japanese demand is likely to reach 1,000 tons.
Juran marketing director, Avner Galili says, "The ArilSystem is helping our customers meet current market demand as awareness of health foods and the remarkable benefits of the pomegranate gain ground worldwide. We have a new compact juicing machine which will soon be providing Japanese restaurants and hotels with superior quality pomegranate juice. And with our unique freezing technology, health-aware consumers around the world will be able to enjoy fruit nearly as fresh as just-picked, any time of the year."
