Israel: Juran boosts India's entry into growing pomegranate market

January 2010. Juran, leading provider of unique pomegranate solutions for the food industry, is supplying its latest versions of the ArilSystem to companies around the world eager to enter the growing pomegranate market.

First developed by Juran in 2003 as the EAP method for Extracting Arils from Pomegranates, today's ArilSystem is available in four upgraded and automated models. In the last three years, the ArilSystem production capacity has been upped from 12 fruits per minute to 28. Latest models just released offer a production capacity ranging from a fully automated 56 fruits per minute, to a simpler model handling 15 fruits per minute and featuring a semi-automatic feed. All four models produce superior quality arils, untouched by human hands.

Juran has recently set up two new installations in India, both featuring production lines based on the latest models of the ArilSystem. They will allow the companies to extract pomegranate seeds at a new level of efficiency with minimal seed damage, increased output, and tremendous cost savings. The result is an all natural, superior quality pomegranate product with a longer shelf life.

Superior quality, fresh arils
Previously an expensive, labor-intensive fruit to handle, thanks to Juran, Indian company Fresh Acres can now add pomegranates to their line of food products. Processing them at a rate of 28 fruits per minute, handling some 600 kilograms of fruit per hour, they enjoy a yield of over 200 kilograms of undamaged seeds per hour, from a single ArilSystem production line. Fresh Acres will be exporting their fresh pomegranate arils throughout Europe.

A better tasting juice
Juran's ArilSystem now makes pomegranate juice – the super anti-oxidant – not only a health booster, but also a tastier drink than ever before. That's because unlike other current juicing methods, the ArilSystem separates the juicy seeds from the fruit peel and membrane, eliminating the bitter taste of tannins and yielding a delicious pure juice extracted from the seeds alone. Having installed two ArilSystem production lines, each handling 20 fruits per minute, Indian company Amit Pomeg-Tech will be well positioned to meet the growing demand for a better tasting, better quality pomegranate juice.

Juran marketing director, Avner Galili says, "There is a growing demand for pomegranate products worldwide. We have a big order from Japan for our newly developed compact juicing machine for restaurants and hotels that want a pure, better tasting juice, and in addition to the new installations in India we currently have an ArilSystem on its way to Australia. Such installations will allow their operators to command a better price per kilogram of arils, while offering the growing number of consumers worldwide a superior product."

AriISystem by Juran sounds interesting now that I have discovered pomegranate can grow in my farm successfully. I would like to know:
1. How to improve the local type to world class type of the fruit - i.e. getting sample seedlings/seeds from a definite source/farmer.
2. Is there any possibility of getting a breakthrough for pomegranate markets in the world?
3.Can someone keep me posted how the ArilSystem by Juran in India can be purchased for use in Kenya?
