A practical course about the most important technical cultivation themes
Holland: “Keep the growth in control!”

“Keep the growth in control!” is a practical course about the most important technical cultivation themes. The content of this course is aimed primarily at experienced growers and their staff.

The purpose of the course is to expand and develop technical cultivation insight, to develop better growing skills and to sharpen control skills. The course is based on the transition from fundamental knowledge and science to the application of practical tools for effective crop management. We will link theoretical views to practical situations with examples, cases and tours of the relevant subjects. As
such, basic knowledge about crop and climate management is recommended as a prerequisite.

The course location will be the Improvement Centre where the different greenhouse sections and tests also can be accessed for the practical part of the course.
Greenhouse tomatoes will be the reference crop in this course, but the knowledge and topics that will be presented in this course will be suitable and applicable for other cultures.

The trainers in this course are consultants and experts with directly related international focus and experience.

Due to the interactive way in which this course is presented, participation is limited to 10 persons.

Content
In a 5 day course the following subjects will be addressed.
• Practical interpretation of plant physiology.
• How to anticipate the crop in different climate circumstances.
• Inter-relation of the effects of light, temperature, CO2, etc. and management.
• Recognizing and handling of differences in growth and crop development on different types and varieties of tomatoes.
• The marks and characteristics of several substrates and the combination with irrigation strategies.
• The effects and influence of the key fertilizing elements, EC and pH on the cultivation process.
• Crop planning, harvest planning and crop registration.
• Interpretation and implementation of new technical aspects including cooling,
dehumidification, artificial light and new growing systems.
• Recognizing and management of diseases and pests.
• Other relevant current topics.

In 2010 this course will be offered during the following times:

Course 1: from 15 March till 19 March 2010
Course 2: from 29 August till 3 September 2010

Costs
The costs for this 5 days course will be € 2,700.00 including lunch and tours. Costs for flight tickets, hotel, food and drinks are not included in the price.
