'Mali exported 10,000 tonnes of mangoes to Europe in 2009'
Mali exported nearly 10,000 tonnes of mangoes to Europe in 2009, earning over FCFA 4.2 billion in the process, Mali's company in charge of crop exports, PCDA, has disclosed here.
Supported by the World Bank, PCDA has been developing, for three years, mechanisms aimed at boosting the mango chain -- building exporters' capacity, improving quality of the mango fruits exported and increasing quantity of exports.
Under the World Bank assistance, Mali hopes to double the export figure in three years.
Mango exports rose from 4,000 tonnes in 2007 to about 10,000 tonnes in 2009.
