India: Rs 177-crore plan to boost horticulture
A plan for the development of horticulture in the State has been evolved with an outlay of Rs 177 crore in the current fiscal.
The Centre will provide 85 per cent of funds for implementation of the plan.
Speaking to newsmen here Wednesday, Horticulture Director G Jayalakshmi said the remaining 15 per cent funds would be provided by the State Government.
Andhra Pradesh stood second in the country in horticulture.
The State topped in drip irrigation.
Under Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP), horticulture would be taken up in 6 lakh acres in the State. SC and ST horticulturists would be given 100 per cent subsidy for micro irrigation.
A sum of Rs 13 crore was earmarked for cultivation of vegetables in 46,000 acres. Vegetable seeds would be provided to farmers at 75 per cent subsidy.
A proposal was submitted to the State Government seeking Rs 22 crore for payment of compensation to the flood affected farmers for the crop loss, she said.
District Collector Sasibhushan Kumar, Horticulture Joint Director Satyanarayana and Horticulture ADs of Kurnool, Anantapur and Kadapa districts were also present.
